The Lakeview Lakers remain alive in the Section 3A baseball tournament after going 1-1 in Madison on Saturday. Lakeview defeated Canby 3-2 in 11 innings in its first game, then dropped an 11-2 game to North sub-section top seed Lac qui Parle Valley.
The Lakers' victory against Canby was its second one-run win over the Lancers this season. They defeated Canby 8-7 on May 14.
In Saturday's game against Canby, all of Lakeview's three runs were unearned. The winning run in the top of the 11th came when Seth Boerboom got on base on an error, was moved over to second on a sacrifice by Jacob Nue and later scored on a single by senior Wyatt Schuster.
Sophomore Bayley Enstad pitched the first nine innings for Lakeview. He gave up two runs on six hits, striking out five batters and walking five. Randy Louwagie pitched the last two innings without giving up a run or a hit. Canby's lone runs came in the opening inning.
Jordan Holmlund struck out 11 batters in eight innings for the Lancers. He gave up just two hits and one walk. Bryce Gorder tossed the final three innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.
Lakeview struggled in its next game against top seed LQPV. The Eagles scored three runs in the opening inning and never looked back. Lakeview managed just four hits against LQPV in the game.
The Lakers (5-7 overall) face Central Minnesota Christian at 5 p.m. today in Montevideo.
