Blackjacks come back to stay alive in 3A playoffs

The Dawson-Boyd Blackjacks just barely snuck past the first round of the Section 3A-North playoffs and went 2-0 Thursday to move on to play in Saturday's winners' bracket.

Second-seeded Dawson-Boyd needed to score eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat No. 7 seed BOLD 11-10 in its playoff opener. Justine Flattum had a game-tying triple in the inning and Andrea Lee followed with a single to help her team earn the walk-off win.

The Blackjacks went on to defeat Ortonville 8-2 in the second-round game. Ortonville had defeated MACCRAY 8-7 in eight innings earlier in the day.

Sydney Giese earned the win in the circle for the Blackjacks and Lee led the offense by going 3-for-3 with a triple.

The games were originally scheduled to be played Tuesday but were postponed twice due to wet weather.

Dawson-Boyd (13-5 overall) advances to play Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian on Saturday in Cottonwood.
