Tracy 4, Dawson 3

Opening the season on its home field, the Tracy Express pulled out a 4-3 victory over the Dawson Drakes Sunday behind a strong offensive performance by Eric Wiering.

Wiering had three of Tracy's seven hits in the game, including a double and three RBIs. Tied at three through seven innings, the Express scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.

Jeremy Hofflock helped Tracy's cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and two runs scored.

Phil Madsen tossed the first seven innings for the Express and got a no decision. He allowed three earned runs on five hits with six strikeouts. Tylan Gylling pitched two perfect innings to close out the game and earn the victory.

Derek Gritmacker had a strong outing for Dawson in his first start of the year. He gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits with seven strikeouts in six innings of work. Josh Staab pitched the final three innings and took the loss.

TMB resumes play Wednesday with a road game against Raymond.

Milroy Irish 11, Canby 0

Four Milroy Irish pitchers combined to toss a no-hitter Sunday at Irish Yard in an 11-0 victory over the Canby Knights.

Isaac Dolan, Clay Ellis and Tyler Peterson each pitched two innings for the Irish and Tyler Alcorn threw the last inning. Aaron Antony caught the whole game for the Irish. The Milroy pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts and allowed three walks.

Dominic Dolan led Milroy at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base. Peterson was 1-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Lamberton 3, Sleepy Eye 2

The defending Tomahawk East League champion Lamberton Long Sox kicked off the 2013 amateur baseball season with a 3-2 victory over the Sleepy Eye Indians Sunday in Sleepy Eye.

Lamberton scored all three of its runs in the fifth inning. The Long Sox had 12 hits to Sleepy Eye's five.

Colby Pack went 3-for-4 with a double to lead the Long Sox offensively. Mike Wotschke, Jake Sell and Dylan Bunting each had two hits.

Lamberton's Jacob Jenniges tossed seven innings in his first start of the season, striking out four batters. Shane Schoborg came on in the eighth and pitched the final two innings to earn the save.

The Long Sox play their home opener Wednesday against Heron Lake.

Heron Lake 8, Hadley 6

Ike Rodgers had a pair of doubles to help lift Heron Lake to an 8-6 home victory over Hadley in the amateur baseball season opener for both teams.

Nick Bruning had a strong day at the plate for the Buttermakers in the losing effort, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Max Zwart went 2-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs.

The Buttermakers play their home opener Sunday at 2 p.m. against Marshall in what will be the first game of the season for the A's.
