Southwest Minnesota State wrestler Justin Reinsma secured himself All-American status for the second straight year by bouncing back from an opening-round loss with back-to-back wins Friday at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Birmingham, Ala.

Reinsma, a graduate of Murray County Central High School in Slayton, was one of four SMSU wrestlers competing at nationals Friday and is the only Mustang who advanced to the second and final day of competition.

Reinsma lost his first match at 133 pounds to Shippensburg (Pa.) wrestler Cameron Throckmorton in a 14-6 major decision. The junior bounced back with a 9-2 win over Grand Canyon (Ariz.) wrestler Lino Estrada before pinning Zachary Hale of Anderson (S.C.) in the consolation second round.

Reinsma (27-8 overall) advances to today's consolation third round and will take on Alphonso Vruno of Minnesota State-Mankato. Reinsma has lost twice to Vruno this season.

By winning two matches Friday, Reinsma ensures he will be just the second two-time NCAA All-American in program history, joining Link Steffen, who earned the the honors in 1997 and 1998.

At 165 pounds, SMSU's Jacob Begin lost his opening match of the day to Central Oklahoma's Chris Watson in an 8-4 decision. He recovered with a 6-2 win over Pittsburgh-Johnstown (Pa.) wrestler Keith Ryan before being eliminated with a 6-4 loss to Justin Samora of Adams State (Colo). Begin ends his junior season with a 17-5 record.

Kyle Begin, Jacob's brother, was the only Mustang to win his opening match Friday. Competing at 174 pounds, the true freshman pinned Colorado State-Pueblo's Ryan Hall in the third period. He then suffered a heartbreaking triple-overtime loss to North Carolina-Pembroke's Mike Williams, 4-3. Begin closed his season with an 11-3 loss to Central Oklahoma's Kelly Henderson in the consolation second round and finishes with a 19-4 record.

SMSU's Travis Peralta lost both of his matches at 184 pounds on Friday. He lost an 11-7 decision to Travis McKillop of Pittsburgh-Johnstown and was eliminated in the consolation first round by Charles Mason of Notre Dame (Ohio) in a third-period pin. Peralta ends his year with an 18-13 record.
