MARSHALL - Christopher Ray Maeyaert, 20, of Lucan, appeared in Lyon County District Court March 6 on charges of theft by check. A complaint alleges that on Jan. 20, Maeyaert issued more than $500 in checks to a Marshall business from an account he was not entitled to draw upon. A hearing was set for March 19. Bail was set at $6,000 without conditions, or with conditions including appear in court, and do not enter the business.

MARSHALL - Christopher Ray Maeyaert, 20, of Lucan, appeared in Lyon County District Court March 5 on charges of theft by check. A complaint alleges that between November and January, Maeyaert issued more than $700 in checks to Marshall businesses from accounts that did not exist or were closed. A hearing was set for March 19. The court denied a motion to reduce bail for Maeyaert.

MARSHALL - Modesto Moreno, 25, of Lynd, appeared in Lyon County District Court March 5 on two counts of first degree burglary charges and simple robbery - liability for crimes of another charges. A complaint alleges Moreno or an accomplice assaulted and robbed the resident of a home in Lyon County on Dec. 22. A hearing was reset for March 19.

MARSHALL - Raul Salinas, Jr., 29, of Montevideo, pleaded guilty in Lyon County District Court March 5 to charges of theft, court records said. Salinas stole items from a Marshall business on Nov. 5, court records said. Salinas received a stayed sentence of 180 days in jail and was sentenced to pay a $400 fine and two years probation with conditions including pay restitution and abide by laws. Additional charges of theft were dismissed.

MARSHALL - Preston Allan Sanow, 26, of Marshall, pleaded innocent in Lyon County District Court March 5 to dangerous weapon charges and charges of fifth degree controlled substance crime, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. A complaint alleges Sanow discharged a handgun in a Marshall residence on Nov. 28. A trial was set for May 8, with a date certain of June 20. A pretrial hearing was set for April 30.

MARSHALL - Amanda Marie Schafer, 31, of Balaton, pleaded guilty in Lyon County District Court March 5 to charges of theft by wrongfully obtaining assistance, court records said. Schafer failed to report income in Lyon County between June 2011 and May 2012, resulting in an overpayment of benefits, court records said. A sentencing hearing was set for May 3.

MARSHALL - Andrew James Soulek, 25, of Garretson, S.D., pleaded guilty in Lyon County District Court March 4 to charges of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, attempting to disarm a peace officer, third degree driving while impaired and obstructing legal process, court records said. Soulek drove while impaired in Lyon County on Dec. 22, and fled a traffic stop, court records said. Soulek received a stayed sentence of one year and one day in prison, a $1,500 fine, and three years probation with conditions including serve 210 days in jail with credit for 73 days served and abstain from alcohol and drugs. Additional charges of third degree driving while impaired and license plate impound violation were dismissed.
