Markell receives awards

Dan Markell, FIC, a Catholic United Financial sales representative, was recently honored at the Catholic United Financial awards banquet at the Crowne Plaza in Plymouth. Markell was first in insurance sales, first in new member recruiting and top producer, and also earned his 2012 Century Club Award and his third President's Club Award. Markell's region, led by Mike Bredeck, earned its fourth consecutive award for the region with most points over quota.

Markell has been serving Catholic parishes in a five-county area in southwestern Minnesota including Marshall, Minneota, Ivanhoe and Pipestone for the past four years.

Oeltjenbruns passes CPA exam

Hoffman and Brobst announces that Megan Oeltjenbruns has passed the CPA exam. CPA certification requirements in Minnesota include passing the CPA exam, 150 college credit hours, one year of experience and passing a self study ethics exam.

Oeltjenbruns's areas of professional interest include personal, partnership and corporate tax preparation and retirement plan administration.

Unemployment Insurance 101 employer seminar offered

A three-hour employer seminar "Unemployment Insurance 101: "What Minnesota Employers Need to Know" will be offered Feb. 21 in Pipestone. Unemployment program experts will provide answers to tough unemployment questions. Participants will learn the best practices on how to manage unemployment issues in their workplace and gain the knowledge needed to deal with unemployment issues quickly and decisively.

The presenters will explain how unemployment insurance tax rates are determined, how an applicant's benefits eligibility can affect a business, what can be done to prevent unnecessary charges to UI accounts and much, much more.

This session is designed for human resource professionals, business owners and managers, attorneys, accountants, consultants and others who are interested in learning about their rights and responsibilities under the Minnesota Unemployment Insurance Law.

It will also satisfy the needs of the relatively inexperienced HR employee, the veteran staffer who wants to brush up on some critical knowledge, or the business owner who wants more information about UI regulations.

The seminar is from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. (including lunch) Thursday, Feb. 21, at the Pipestone County Medical Center - Ashton Conference Room, Pipestone. Frerichs attend mastery courses

Dr. John W. Frerich and Kristie Frerich attended a two-day CEREC mastery course Jan. 19 and 20 in Scottsdale, Ariz. The course focused on multiple same-day crowns and anterior (front) teeth design.

In addition, both were in attendance Jan. 24-26 in Heber City, Utah, at the Whitecap Institute for a restorative treatment course for dental implants. Dr. Frerich has completed an intensive implant residency though the Whitecap Institute and was a part of the annual Whitecap Implant seminar in Florence, Italy Oct. 16-20, 2012. He is a mentor at Whitecap.

Eight recognized as Marshall GreenStep Businesses

The Marshall GreenStep Committee announces that eight organizations were recognized as Marshall GreenStep Businesses in January and are being acknowledged for their efforts in solid waste prevention, conservation of resources, recycling and energy efficiency.
