SMSU wheelchair hoops team falls to Movin’ Mavs

A hot-shooting squad from the University of Texas-Arlington made the Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team's first game of a three-game weekend trip to Columbia, Mo., a difficult one. The Movin' Mavs shot 56.7 percent from the field and controlled the boards to earn a 67-39 win over SMSU Friday at the University of Missouri.

Kris Shannon went 8-for-11 from the field, scoring a game-high 19 points to go with his game-high eight rebounds to lead UT-Arlington to the win.

The Mustangs shot 37.5 percent in the losing effort. They trailed 36-20 by halftime and lost the battle of the boards 31-18.

Savoy Brown had a strong game for the Mustangs, scoring 10 points with seven rebounds and eight of the team's 14 assists. Kyle Timmerman led the squad in scoring with 15 points.

SMSU will wrap up its time in Columbia today with game against Wisconsin-Whitewater and the University of Illinois.
