Area boys' basketball

RTR 89, Edgerton 61

The starters on the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton boys' basketball team combined to score all of the Knights' points Monday night in an 89-61 runaway win over Edgerton in a non-conference game in Edgerton.

Brett Peterson scored a game-high 24 points to lead the fifth-ranked (Class A) Knights, who won their sixth straight game. Shay Wabeke added 22 points, Dylan Kor chipped in 18 points, Brett Vercruysse scored 15 and Newt Dunblazier tallied 10 points.

Edgerton (4-6 overall) got 20 points from Brett Ford in the losing effort.

The Knights (14-1) now await a key Camden Conference matchup as they prepare to take on 10th-ranked Dawson-Boyd Thursday in Dawson.

Windom Area 57, MCC 38

The Murray County Central boys' basketball team struggled to find its offense Monday as the Windom Area Eagles cruised to a 57-38 win over the Rebels in a non-conference game played in Windom.

Bryce Bever had 12 points and seven rebounds to lead the Eagles (7-8 overall), who held a 25-13 edge at halftime. Trenton Bever added 11 points and seven boards, while Andy Pfeffer scored six points to go with eight assists and four steals.

Sam Erickson paced the Rebels (2-10) with 12 points in the losing effort.

MCC will look to bounce back Thursday when the Rebels return to Red Rock Conference play to take on Red Rock Central in Lamberton.

Area girls' basketball

RTR 62, Edgerton 33

Scoring more points in the first half than its opponent did in the entire game, the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton girls' basketball team blew by Edgerton 62-33 Monday night in the first game of a boy/girl doubleheader in Edgerton.

The win was the Knights' fourth in a row and they are now 10-4 overall. They led Edgerton 38-17 at the half.

RTR had three players score in double figures. Allison Pochardt had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Kaylie Nielsen also tallied 12 points. Leslie Willert added 11 points and six rebounds in the blowout win.

Edgerton (2-12 overall) was led by Breanna Nelson, who hit three 3-pointers and scored 11 points.

RTR returns to Camden Conference play today with a home game against Dawson-Boyd.

Area wrestling

No. 4 Bobcats stay perfect at Luverne Duals

The Wabasso/Red Rock Central wrestling squad stayed perfect on the season with four wins at the Luverne Duals Saturday in Luverne.

The Bobcats, ranked fourth in Class A, defeated Sioux Falls Lincoln (S.D.) 61-14 to open the day and took down Sheldon-South O'Brien (Iowa) 66-12 in Round 2. Wabasso/RRC's 56-6 Round 3 win over Luverne gave Bobcat co-head coach Gary Hindt his 700th career victory, making him the third head coach in state history to reach that milestone. The Bobcats added to his win total in the final dual, defeating Brandon Valley (S.D.) 50-16.

Mitchell Fulton, Tanner Rohlik, Blake Altermatt, Jared Welch and Alex Schroepfer each went 4-0 for Wabasso/RRC on the day. All four of Altermatt's wins came via pin fall, as did three of Welch's wins. Schroepfer, a heavyweight, also earned four pins, all of which took him less than a minute to secure.
