Jacob Begin went 4-0, including two pin falls, in aiding the Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team to a 3-1 record at the 23rd annual Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison, Colo. on Saturday.
The Mustangs (10-1 overall) suffered their first defeat of the season in the day's opening dual, falling to Colorado Mesa 32-9. Only Begin and Justin Reinsma earned points for SMSU in the loss.
SMSU bounced back, however, winning its final three duals of the day. The Mustangs won four of the final five matches on their way to a 28-15 win over California Baptist, before holding off a late charge by Colorado State-Pueblo for a 25-18 win.
In its final dual, SMSU won the first four matches against their hosts from Western State Colorado. The Mustangs lost five of the final six bouts in the dual, but held on for a narrow 19-17 victory.
Reinsma and Devin Terry went a combined 5-0 for the Mustangs, but SMSU received no points from the heavyweight division on the day.
The Mustangs are back on the mat on Friday, as they kick off the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with a home dual against Augustana.
