Marshall gymnasts take on Huskies in dual

Marshall Independent

Coming off their home invitational on Saturday, the Marshall gymnastics team made a quick turnaround to compete against Jackson County Central Monday in Jackson.

JCC, which won Section 3A last season and went to the state tournament, won Monday's dual 136.325 to 102.025.

The Tigers had scored 103.675 points in Saturday's home invite, which was a season high, but Marshall head coach Lindsay Wolff wasn't discouraged by her team's slight drop off.

"Tonight's score on the (uneven) bars was pretty good for us," she said. "For having a meet on Saturday and no practice in between, I thought the girls did very well. They definitely are looking more comfortable in what they are doing with their routines."

Meg Ellis had the top scores for the young Tigers on the vault (8.45) and on the balance beam (6.95), which helped her to her team-best all-around score of 27.85. Natalie Rademacher led the team on the uneven bars (6.625) and had an all-around score of 26.225. Nicole Deragisch had the Tigers' best score in the floor exercise at 7.45.

The Tigers have a couple of days to prepare for their next meet, which will be a home dual against Mankato West on Thursday. Wolff said it was good for her squad to get a look at JCC, one of the best teams in the region, at this point in the season.

"They went to state last year out of our section and are looking to get there again," Wolff said. "They have a good feeder program and lots of good girls on JV and varsity.

"Our girls watched their routines and hopefully will take some things from what they saw. We know we're not going to win meets like this, but the goal is to try to improve each meet and get better from there."
