Hello Mustang fans!
The holiday season is upon us and today is the last day of finals for the fall semester at SMSU. It will be quiet on campus and with SMSU athletic activities until after the start of the new year. Thank you to everyone who supports and takes interest in SMSU Athletics and our student-athletes. We truly appreciate the support of the Marshall community and southwestern Minnesota in helping to grow our athletic programs.

This Week in Mustang Athletics:
The SMSU wrestling team is off to a great start this year. The Mustangs are perfect on the season in dual matches, posting a 7-0 record earning three wins this past weekend over Ridgewater Community College, Itasca Community College and St. John's.
On the weekend, SMSU beat Ridgewater CC 28-18, Itasca CC 23-3 and concluded with a 35-15 victory over St. John's. The Mustangs will take a break over the holidays and resume action in Gunnison, Colo., on Jan. 12, 2013, for four duals hosted by Western State University.
The SMSU women's and men's basketball teams will also break for the holidays. Last weekend, the SMSU women's basketball team went 0-2, losing to Minnesota State-Mankato and Concordia-St. Paul. The Mustangs are 1-9 overall and 0-5 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The SMSU men's basketball team split on the weekend, losing in a heartbreaker to the MSU-Mankato on Friday before rebounding on Saturday with a 96-86 victory over Concordia-St. Paul. Both teams will return to action Jan. 4 when they head to Winona State to kick off the new year. The Mustangs will battle Winona State on Friday and head to Upper Iowa University on Saturday the first NSIC road trip of the year.
The SMSU wheelchair basketball team decided not to travel to Pittsburg State last week. The Mustangs' next competition will be Jan. 11-12 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Invite.
I would like to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season!
- Congratulations to Al and Mary Roth, who provided the correct answer to the last week's Mustang Hoofprints Question: What Mustang wrestler has the career record for dual matches won? Randy Vogt (1968-73) holds the record with 50 career dual match wins as a Mustang wrestler.
