The Marshall girls' hockey team kept up its torrid offensive pace on Thursday with an 8-1 win over Windom Area in a Southwest Conference game played in Windom.

Since being shut out by New Ulm on Nov. 20, the Tigers (3-1 overall) have scored 16 goals in their last two games. They defeated Worthington 8-0 on Tuesday.

"To be honest, we came out kind of flat," said Marshall head coach Kevin Schroeder. "As the game went on, we started picking up the intensity. I thought in the second and third period they did a nice job."

Marshall started strong and finished strong in Thursday's victory, a game in which the Tigers outshot Windom 67-9. They scored three goals in the first period, including two in the first four minutes. Jessica Blanchard started things off with a goal 2 minutes, 29 seconds into the game on an assist from Hanna Peterson. Morgan Larsen added a shorthanded goal just over a minute later, then assisted on a goal by Megan Vogl later in the period.

"They picked up the intensity in the second period and good things happened," Schroeder said.

Vogl added another goal early on in the third period, but Windom (0-3) answered with a score by Addison Beaty less than a minute later.

Up 4-1 through two periods, the Tigers really got rolling in the third. Blanchard scored her second goal of the game midway through the period, then added a power play goal with 2:27 left in the game to record a hat trick.

"That was good for (Jessica) to get a couple goals," Schroeder said. "I think we did a nice job moving up front with the power play. They showed some more patience."

The Tigers weren't done scoring, as Mikenna Radke found the back of the net with 1:37 left on the clock, and Lizzie Archbold got into the act with a goal in the final second.

Morgan Morrill had eight saves in net for Marshall, while Windom seventh-grader Emily Steen stopped 59 shots.

Marshall will next be in action Saturday for a home game against St. Peter/LeSueur-Henderson at Lockwood Motors Ice Arena.
