After being ranked No. 1 for four straight weeks, the Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team dropped into a tie for second in this week's edition of the American Volleyball Coaches' Association Top 25 Poll.
The Mustangs went 1-1 last week, defeating No. 22 Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday and losing to No. 2 Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday. With its win, Concordia-St. Paul jumped up to take the top spot in the rankings, while SMSU is now tied with Nebraska-Kearney for second.
Washburn sits in fourth in the rankings, while BYU-Hawai'i and Minnesota-Duluth are tied for fifth. Other Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference teams ranked in the AVCA Top 25 this week include Wayne State (16th)?and Minnesota State-Mankato (24th).
SMSU will be in St. Paul Friday to face MSU-Mankato in the quarterfinal round of the NSIC Tournament, which is hosted by Concordia-St. Paul. SMSU has defeated the Mavericks twice already this season.
