If Mitt Romney had his way…

November 3, 2012
Marshall Independent

To the editor:

If Mitt Romney had his way, there would be no Federal Emergency Management Agency on the ground today in Maryland, New Jersey, New York and other states hit by Hurricane Sandy. If Mitt Romney had his way, the resources FEMA is now bringing to the scene of this natural disaster would have been distributed to the 50 states; disaster managers in each affected state would right now be trying to locate the people and supplies they need in Sandy's aftermath. If Mitt Romney had his way, disaster officials in Illinois, Tennessee, Oregon and other states would be receiving requests from affected areas for those supplies, adding an unnecessary layer of complexity and delay to recovery efforts.

I, for one, am thankful that the United States of America, emphasis here on the word "United," maintains a strong federal response to disasters like Sandy. In part to make sure that federal role remains strong, I'll be voting next Tuesday for Rep. Peterson, Sen. Klobuchar and President Obama. I encourage you to do the same.
