Section 3A-South Tournament

RTR 3, SWC 2

When No. 1 seed Southwest Minnesota Christian rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie Tuesday's Section 3A-South semifinal match, the fifth-seeded Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights were in familiar territory playing another five-setter. And like they have time and time again, the Knights rose to the occasion in the decisive set, pulling out a 25-21, 25-21, 19-25, 28-30, 15-5 victory to advance to the sub-section finals.

Tuesday's match in Luverne was the seventh time the Knights had gone five sets this season, and the sixth time they'd won a five-set match. After earning the upset, RTR (19-12 overall) advances to face No. 3 seed Southwest United (23-8-1) at 6 p.m. Thursday at Southwest Minnesota State University for the sub-section title.

Janel Wichern led RTR with a team-high 19 kills and 27 digs. Leslie Willert also had a strong all-around match, finishing with 12 kills and 15 digs and going 14 of 14 serving with one ace.

Destinee Strand tallied 29 set assists for the Knights in the victory, and Justine Possail and Dana Schaefer each had three ace blocks.
