Southwest Minnesota State senior Jordan Miller posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help lead the SMSU men's basketball team past the SMSU Alumni team 72-64 Saturday as part of "Andy Wiersma Day" at SMSU.
Nick Smith tallied 14 points and six rebounds for the winning team, and Lavione West added nine points.
Miller also had four assists and a pair of steals for the Mustangs.
Undre Ellis was the top scorer for the SMSU Alumni team, pouring in 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field. Matt Fletcher added 12 points in the losing effort.
The SMSU Alumni led 64-62 with two minutes left before West converted a three-point play to give SMSU a 65-64 edge with 1:44 remaining. Miller followed with a 3-pointer, his third of the game, to put SMSU up 68-64 with 55 seconds left. He then sealed the game with a pair of free throws.
The Mustang men's basketball team continues its exhibition season Nov. 5 at home against St. Olaf College.
