Marshall Independent

Jeff Gladis had five rushing touchdowns and 154 yards as Minneota/Lincoln HI stormed past Wabasso 48-6 in a Section 5A semifinal Saturday in Minneota.

Of his five scores, three came during a 21-0 first quarter for the Vikings (9-1 overall). Along with Gladis, Nathan Pavek and Cole Hennen also scored for the Vikings. Hennen made the score 41-0 when he returned a Neil Eichten interception 35 yards for the score. Pavek scored the Vikings' final touchdown at 8 minutes, 3 seconds remaining in the game as he broke loose for a 43-yard rushing score.

Pavek finished with 96 total yards and a touchdown, while Hennen added a game-high nine tackles to his pick-six.

Wabasso (5-5) finally broke through with 1:42 remaining when Eichten connected with Seth Guetter for a ten yard touchdown. Eichten completed 18 of 29 passes for 138 yards, but also threw three interceptions (Grant Hennen had the other two INTs for the Vikings).

The Rabbits were stymied by the Viking defense as they gained just 89 yards on the ground and 227 total yards. The Vikings also controlled the clock, allowing Wabasso the ball for just 12:53 of the total 48 minutes.

With the win fourth-ranked and top-seeded Minneota/Lincoln HI advances to the Section 5A final against third-ranked and second-seeded Dawson-Boyd at 5 p.m. Friday at Mattke Field in Marshall.
