LAKE BENTON - Services for Edward "Jim" Howard Morehouse, 86, of Lake Benton will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Lake Benton. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial with military honors will be in the Russell City Cemetery in Russell. Arrangements are provided by Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Lake Benton.
He died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at the Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Tyler.
He was born June 25, 1926, to Edwin and Frieda Smith Morehouse in Atlantic City, N.J. In July 1944, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He attended basic training at Farragut Naval Station, Idaho and amphibious training at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He was assigned to the USS Bland APA134 carrying marine troops within the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge in June 1946.
Survivors include his wife, Larraine; his son, Brad of Clifton, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, MaryAnn Thole of Prairie du Chien, Wis., and Patty Morehouse of Canby.
