To the editor:
The word "marriage" historically denotes a commitment between two human adults of opposite gender, one male and one female, to live together as husband and wife and indulge in each other's capability of procreating children. In light of its historical meaning, use of the term "marriage" to signify any other union, whether intimate or not is deceptive because conception is not possible. Constitutionally defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman would considerably protect the historical meaning of "marriage."
