South Dakota State senior libero Shay Birath had 32 digs last Friday in the Jackrabbits 3-1 win over Nebraska-Omaha to set a new SDSU four-set record.
The Marshall native broke the school's five-year old record of 30 digs in four sets, which was achieved by Samantha Pearson against Montana on Sept. 8 of 2007. Birath already holds the Jackrabbits' three-set record for digs, which is also 32.
Birath entered the season needed 577 digs to break Pearson's school record of 1,929. With 446 digs so far this in 2012, she has eight more regular season matches to get the remaining 131 digs to break the record.
The Jackrabbits, who are 13-8 overall and 5-4 in Summit League play, return to the court Friday for a road match against Western Illinois.
