BALATON - Services for John Tutt Jr., 98, of Balaton are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Skandia Evangelical Free Church in rural Balaton. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Arrangements are provided by Hartquist Funeral Home, Utoft-Johansen Chapel in Tyler.
He died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Abbot Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
John David Tutt, Jr. was born Aug. 24, 1914, to John and Christine (Corneliussen) Tutt on the family farm north of Lake Wilson. He graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1933. Following graduation he worked with his brother, Earl, as an electrician and wired several houses in Murray County as the REA came into the area. John started to farm in Ellsborough Township in 1940. On July 2, 1941, John married Stella Erickson in the Skandia Evangelical Free Church parsonage in rural Balaton. The couple made their home in rural Balaton until they retired to Marshall in 1980. In 1995 they moved to Balaton.
John trusted Christ as his Savior in 1946 after hearing God's word preached. He was convinced of his need for a Savior. He was a life-long servant of Christ, attending and supporting Skandia Evangelical Free Church. During retirement he served as a Gideon, distributing God's word. He also got his real estate license. He enjoyed time with his family, hunting, fishing and golf.
John leaves to mourn his passing Stella, his wife of 71 years; his children, Judy Petersen of Maple Grove, Jim (and Jayne) Tutt of San Diego, Calif., JoAnne (and Dave) Harthan of Champlin, Jerry (and Wanda) Tutt of Maple Grove, J. Daniel (and Julie) Tutt of Robbinsdale, Jeanne (and Irvine) Goldenberg of Minneapolis, J. Dawn (and Don) Fontaine of St. Paul, Joel (and Kathy) Tutt of Balaton, Jeff (and Diana) Tutt of Billings, Mont., Jay (and Catharine) Tutt of Watertown, Jill (and Mike) Eisner of Salinas, Calif., and Scot (and Darrelynn) Tutt of Miller, S.D.; 39 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; brother Carroll (and Florence) Tutt of Slayton; sister Irene Telford of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by son Jack at age 6; grandsons Jeremy and John; his parents; four brothers, Arthur, Earl, Fred, and Ralph; and a sister, Mary.
