Marshall football team blows by Windom, 48-0

October 6, 2012
Marshall Independent

Friday night's Southwest Conference matchup between unbeaten Marshall and winless Windom Area went about as one would expect. Marshall's Rhett Struve returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and the Tigers never looked back in a dominant 48-0 victory over the struggling Eagles.

The Tigers (6-0 overall, 4-0 SWC) scored 27 points in the first quarter and were up 41-0 at halftime. They pulled their starters for the second half.

Following Struve's opening kick return, Windom fumbled the ball on its first offensive snap and it was recovered by the Tigers. Marshall scored three plays later on a 14-yard run by Colton Citrowske to go up 13-0 less than two minutes into the game.

"We came out and set the tone right away with that kickoff return," said Terry Bahlmann, head coach of Class AAAA's sixth-ranked team. "We wanted to come out focused and play our style of football and that's what we did."

Citrowske finished the game with eight carries for 108 yards and three touchdowns. Struve tallied 74 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. And Timmy Vang scored Marshall's lone second-half touchdown and picked up 51 yards on four carries.

"Everyone got a chancae to play," Bahlmann said. "A lot of the younger guys have been working hard in practice and it was nice to get to reward them with some playing time."

Marshall had 20 first downs to Windom's three. The Tigers also out-rushed the Eagles 309-48.

Next up for Marshall is Worthington, which lost to Luverne 46-6 Friday. The game will be the Tigers' regular season home finale.
