Here's a thought for Sept. 21

Hard drive crash!

Those of you who use computers know the dreaded words, "hard drive crash!" A few years ago my church's computer's hard drive crashed losing all my sermons, all the bulletins, meeting agendas, newsletters, mailing lists, membership lists, posters, letters, certificates, etc. for the previous 2-1/2 years. What makes this story so frustrating is that the information never needed to be lost. The computer had a tape backup installed, but I had never taken the 30 minutes needed to be sure I knew how it worked. I wasn't ready for the hard drive crash. I always thought, "I'll get to it tomorrow." I never took the time to be ready. Many say the same about accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior.

In talking about Christ's second coming Jesus gives this warning, "Keep awake therefore for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.... You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour." (Matt. 24:42-44) Jesus is speaking of his second coming and our receiving the benefits of salvation offered to us. The lesson is clear, be ready and prepared.

Are you ready and prepared for Jesus' second coming? Are you prepared to be received into heaven if death would come to you today? Are you sure about your relationship with God through Jesus? Death can come at any time. Jesus may return at any time. I never thought the hard drive would malfunction, so I wasn't prepared. What was saved on that hard drive has been lost forever. Don't get caught unaware. Ask Jesus to enter your life and take control of it right now. Don't delay! Don't put it off! Talk to a pastor about beginning a personal relationship with Jesus and finding the assurance that you will be prepared when death comes, to live with God for eternity. And then get a jump start on heaven, begin to live with God and for God today!
