IVANHOE?- The Lincoln County Board awarded two public works contracts to the Marshall firm R&G Construction at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.
Of eight firms invited, only two other firms submitted bids for the two contracts: Central Specialties of Alexandria and Midwest Contracting LLC of Marshall.
R&G Construction submitted the lowest bid for each contract. The first is to replace a box culvert on Lincoln County Road 8. R&G submitted the low bid of $444,800. Midwest Contracting bid $558,600 and Central Specialties bid $530,400.
For the second contract to replace two bridges in Verdi and Hendricks townships, R&G bid $352,800, against Midwest Contracting, $392,000, and Central Specialties, $446,700.
In other action, the board voted to accept a snowmobile trail grant of $25,000, and a Natural Resources block grant from the state Board of Water and Soil Resources for a total of $125,600, including a local match of $41,346.
On the recommendation of Environmental Administrator Robert Olsen, the board voted to allow Olsen to proceed with creating a proposed agreement with Waste Management to hire a part-time employee on a trial basis for one year, to monitor rural garbage collection sites to educate the public on separating recyclables and research opinions from the public on managing recycling to reduce landfill usage.
The position would rotate around county collection sites and be funded to $5,000 for one year, with the option to renew for another year.
