Canby 18, RTR 6

Big passing plays were the name of the game in Friday's Little Sioux Conference matchup between Canby and Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, as Lancers quarterback Michael Sisk connected on two 50-plus yard touchdown tosses on the way to an 18-6 victory over the Knights in Canby.

Sisk finished with 142 yards passing, and also finished with an interception on defense. Lancers senior running back Wyatt Kraus bulldozed his way through RTR's defense for 195 yards and a score. Michael Slaba (four catches, 113 yards) scored the decisive touchdown on a 61-yard strike, while Cole Brusven (4-63) scored a first-quarter touchdown on a 57-yard pass from Sisk.

The Knights (0-2 overall) got on the board in the second quarter when Dylan Kor went 54 yards for a touchdown from a pass by Shay Wabeke. Kor led the team with 54 yards on five receptions.

Canby (1-0) heads to Lakeview on Friday, while RTR has a week off before returning to action on Sept. 14 to face Minneota/Lincoln HI in Tyler.

Defending Section 2A champion Sleepy Eye Saint Mary's opened the 2012 season with a convincing 36-6 win over Red Rock Central Friday in Lamberton.

The Knights opened up a 14-0 lead in the first half and were up 30-6 by halftime.

Mitchell Neid rushed for three touchdowns to lead the SESM offense, and Jordan Anderson added two touchdown runs for the Knights.

The Falcons' lone score came in the second quarter when quarterback Brady Bierl connected with wide receiver Jeff DeCock for a 62-yard touchdown.

Mitchell Schroepfer was RRC's leading rushing with 39 yards on 13 carries. Dillion Benson added 37 yards on three carries.

The Falcons (0-1 overall) host Springfield next Friday, while SESM (1-0) will take on Sleepy Eye.
