A former Walnut Grove resident and ex-husband of a Tracy Area High School graduate was killed in a plane crash last weekend in Colorado.

Peter Landherr's wrecked plane was discovered about 10 a.m. Saturday near Steamboat Springs, Colo., the Steamboat Today newspaper said.

He was married to Rachel Fritz of Walnut Grove.

The National Transportation Board told the newspaper the plane crashed sometime between 4 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m Saturday.

Landherr, 36, who was born in Blue Earth, was reportedly flying to Minnesota from his home in Colorado. He was the only person in the 1963 Piper PA24 single-engine plane.

Landherr and Fritz were married in 1998. The couple met while attending Minnesota State University, Mankato. They have four children.

A preliminary crash report could be released today, the NTSB said.
