August 14, 2012
Marshall Independent

Southwest Minnesota State senior quarterback Tyler Peschong was named to the 20th annual USA College Football NCAA Division II Preseason Central Region All-Star Team.

He is one of five quarterbacks to be named to the team and joins fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference quarterbacks Craig Bagnell (Mary) and Philip Klaphake (St. Cloud State).

Coaches, sports information directors, certified players' agents, pro scouts, national writers and the staff of USA Football News selected the team.

Peschong was named second team All-NSIC last season. He threw for 2,627 yards and 20 touchdowns, averaging 238.8 yards per game through the air. He also ran for 414 yards and seven touchdowns.

Averaging 276.5 yards per game in total offense, Peschong led the conference in that category by more than 30 yards per game during his junior season.

SMSU, which finished 2011 with a 3-8 overall record, opens the 2012 season Aug. 30 at home against No. 2 Minnesota-Duluth.
