Knights blast Rosen, fall to Madison
The Canby Knights had a hot and cold weekend at the plate as they split a pair of games in the Land O' Ducks playoffs in Ortonville.
Saturday, the Knights dismantled the Rosen Express 19-1 in seven innings, piling on 20 hits. But Sunday, Canby's offense slowed greatly against Madison as the Mallards sent the Knights to the losers' bracket with a 5-2 win.
Saturday's game against Rosen was no contest for Canby as their batters roughed up Express pitchers Jeremy Ohm and Ethan Scoblic. Trever Citrowske went 4-for-6 with two doubles and three runs scored. Christopher Nemitz also had a big day, going 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and five RBIs. Peter Haugen added three hits for the Knights in the blowout.
Tony Ross went the distance for Canby on the mound, giving up just two hits and striking out seven batters.
The Knights also got a standout performance from their starter Sunday against Madison, except for one inning. The Mallards struck for five runs in the second inning against Canby's Dusty Roemhild, all coming with two outs, and that proved to be enough to give them the win.
Ross led the Knights' offense in the loss, going 3-for-5 with a double.
Canby (11-11 overall) will play the winner of Friday's game between Ortonville and Dawson at 4 p.m. Saturday in Madison.
