A’s keep rolling with 12-4 win over Dawson

July 20, 2012
Marshall Independent

Tyler Flattum and Chace Pollock combined to strike out 12 batters and allowed just two hits as the Marshall A's rolled past the Dawson Drakes 12-4 Thursday in Dawson.

Flattum was supposed to start the game but showed up late, so Pollock pitched the first inning. Flattum arrived and pitched the next four innings, then Pollock came back in to pitch the sixth and seventh. The game was called after seven innings due to darkness.

Flattum, who had pitched just one inning entering Thursday's game, earned the win, striking out five batters. Pollock struck out seven Dawson batters.

Marshall scored its 12 runs on eight hits, capitalizing on a high number of walks by the Dawson pitchers.

Zach Olson had half of the A's hits, going 4-for-4 with three RBIs.

The win moves Marshall to 26-5 on the season. The A's are back in action at 6:30 p.m. today against Cold Spring as they kick of a three-day tournament in Cold Spring.
