The Minneota Fire Department answered a call out to Hope Lutheran Church in Minneota at about 4 p.m. Thursday, according to Minneota Fire Chief Jeff Sussner.
"They had an electrical fire in the attic," Sussner said. "We had to take some ceiling off to get a couple of firemen down in there. It took us about an hour."
The church, located on Jefferson Street, sustained minor smoke damage and will be closed for a week or two, according to Pastor Tom Kolden.
"We're not having a funeral (Saturday)," Kolden said. "That'll be at the funeral home in Minneota. We'll have church outside on Sunday, like in the old days."
According to Kolden, a light fixture dating back to 1948 was probably where the fire started.
"Probably a mouse chewing on a wire or something," Kolden said, "right above where I sit."
