Precision Marketing put up an electronic billboard near the corner of U.S. Highway 59 and Minnesota Highway 23 on Tuesday morning. The Marshall-based company was started by brothers Jeron and Mike Van Drehle, who both graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University and wanted to find a way to stay in town. In a presentation to the Marshall City Council in March, the Van Drehles said the billboard could be used for a variety of purposes, from advertising to making emergency announcements. The advantage of the digital display is that it can be quickly changed and customized to reflect community events, Michael Van Drehle said. Safety issues were also discussed at the March city council meeting before the council voted 6-1 in favor of granting a conditional use permit for the billboard.
