Saddle Horse Holiday at Lake Benton features food, fun and horses

June 14, 2012
By Steve Browne , Marshall Independent

The 66th annual Saddle Horse Holiday at Lake Benton opens this morning with a 4-H Space Explorers mini-camp.

"It's put on by the Minnesota Extension office and happened to coincide with the holiday so it worked out well," said Heather Ulrich-Glynn, community executive director of Lake Benton.

The first clue of the Hidden Horseshoe contest was recently posted. Two horseshoes welded together are hidden somewhere around Lake Benton. On Friday two clues will be posted. The winner who finds the horseshoe will receive $50 in Lake Benton Chamber bucks and a T-shirt and gets to keep the horseshoe.

"There'll be a firemen's tug-of-war on Saturday, which is huge around the area," Ulrich-Glynn said, "and this year they'll be doing a kids' version."

A new event tonight is the free lawnchair drive-in movie at Lakeside Park.

"We're hoping families will come down and bring picnic baskets, lawn chairs and enjoy a family-friendly movie," Ulrich-Glynn said. "Historically a store used to show movies on their back wall and we decided to replay it."
