Lee named director of Office of Diversity and Inclusion
Jefferson Lee IV has been named the director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Lee had served as director in an interim basis since August 2011.
Lee is an SMSU alumnus, having graduated in 1996 with a degree in sociology. He earned an MBA degree from SMSU in 2010, and a master's in counseling and human resource development from South Dakota State University in 1999.
As director of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, Lee will implement programming that brings about cultural inclusion and awareness within the campus community, and the greater southwest Minnesota community, as well.
"It's an honor to be selected for this position as it gives me the opportunity to give back to the students, SMSU and the region. I am anxious to continuing the work we have started within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, and look forward to building stronger relationships to the region," Lee said.
Lee is a Minneapolis native. He and his wife, Sarah, have three children: Jefferson Lee V, 13; Tyrese, 12; and Devon, 11. They live in Marshall.
"Jefferson has a lot of energy and knowledge of the university," said SMSU interim President Ron Wood. "We had a very good group of three candidates, and he was impressive during the process as to what he envisioned for that office. I'm looking forward to exciting new ventures from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion."
