Health/wellness at the ACC

April 28, 2012
By Barb Lipinski - Adult Community Center , Marshall Independent

The Adult Community Center is that infamous blue building sitting on the back side of the Whitney Parking Lot. Many know the blue building but are unsure of what it holds!

This month we're going to take a quick glance at some of the activities offered in our Health/Wellness Programs. First are our weekly Blood Pressure Clinics every Tuesday from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. This is provided by an ACMC nurse. All are welcomed to use the service. The first Wednesday of the month, by appointment only, there is a Health Insurance Consultant available to help with understanding or correcting billing issues, looking at insurance, signing up for programs and registering and signing up for your Medicare Part D Prescription plan to name a few.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, a certified exercise instructor teaches a 30 minute Flex & Stretch program. A Foot Clinic is offered once every 6 weeks by Touching Hearts Home Care. What an opportunity- to have your feet soaked, nails trimmed and good conversation. There is a fee for this clinic. Don't forget to do your walking!

We are working in conjunction with the 'Y' and offering Walking @ the 'Y' three times a week. You must be a member of the Center to participate in this activity. Finally throughout the year we have guest speakers on health issues. Most recently we had a chiropractor speaking on aging women issues.

This is just a small segment of the activities offered here. If you have any questions or want more information on any of the activities above, give us a call at 537-6109.
