Again this past week in the headlines of the Department of Natural Resources, they are talking about the need to increase license fees and adding some new options for hunters and fishermen.
The DNR is proposing some different license options and showing the proposed fee increases for the 2013 season. The husband wife combination increase is one of the largest of the fee increases because the DNR claims it is underpriced.
The increases and new licenses that are proposed are well worth spending a little time to log onto the DNR website and read about all of the proposed changes.
It is time to start planning that summer vacation, if you haven't already. This past weekend we talked about the state parks this year that we would like to go camping at.
We are thinking about several different parks that we have not stayed at yet. One park that we have put on our list to revisit is White Water State Park in the southeastern part of the state.
This has been our favorite one of all the parks we have stayed at and the best part is there are no mosquitoes there.
The DNR website is a great way to research all the state parks. On the DNR website you can find a park based on location, activities, or events. On the site there is also a complete listing of parks with campsites, trails, and activities at the park.
If camping is not what you are into, staying at one of Minnesota's resorts on one of the fabulous lakes in our state may be more your style. The Explore Minnesota website is a great resource for finding a resort that will suit your needs. Sometime in the next few years we will be staying on one of the house boats in northern Minnesota.
Staying on a houseboat looks like it would be a lot of fun as a family vacation.
They have house boats of all sizes and some are equipped with hot tubs. Our state has so much to offer for summer vacations and helps support our state economy.
If you have never visited the Explore Minnesota website that is a good source of information in helping you find places to go, things to do, it also has resorts listed and deals available also on the site.
They even have travel counselors available to talk to on the phone during business hours.
If you have not had the opportunity to get out ice fishing yet, don't panic there are still two weeks left to this year's season.
If you are worried about ice conditions head north. The ice is in great condition in the Ottertail area and the fishing has been good, too. Small game is wrapping up at the end of the month if you have not had the chance to go out and chase a few rabbits or squirrels get out now and enjoy what is left of the season. Have a great week and enjoy the outdoors.
