St. Stephen Lutheran Church
Just over a year ago, we at St. Stephen Lutheran Church were completing an expansion of our building, adding on education space for our growing Sunday School and confirmation classes. Yet, when we built, it was important for us to ask not only how this space could serve us, but also how it could serve the Marshall community. We didn't want the space to be used only on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights.
At the same time, it became apparent that there was a need in the Marshall community for more preschool openings. The congregation asked, "How could St. Stephen utilize the new space and address the needs of the community at the same time?" Starting a new preschool which shares the Christian faith became an outstanding answer.
St. Stephen Preschool is now in the middle of its first year of operation. There are 20 3-year-old students who come to play, learn and praise God on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The purpose of St. Stephen Preschool is to provide a Christian atmosphere where preschool children will develop emotionally, spiritually, cognitively, socially and physically. They develop these skills for a life of faith and learning in an environment with loving, caring adults. Students learn about God's love and grace through Bible stories and play. They also focus on colors, shapes, and counting as well as group behaviors and listening skills - all of the things that will get them ready for kindergarten!
Next year, we are excited to be able to offer a 4-year-old section in addition to the 3-year-old classes currently offered at St. Stephen Preschool. Watch for open house dates coming up in the month of February! If you have any questions about St. Stephen Preschool, contact preschool director and teacher Heather Fossum at 537-1516.
