Faith in action for Nov. 18

Open Door Assembly

In the past month Open Door Assembly had the opportunity to reach out to the community of Marshall in a great way. If you drove past the church you would have seen on the sign that we were going to have a harvest party for the community of Marshall. We promoted it in the community so that there would be a safe place for your kids to come on Halloween night. We had done this in the past and had some success with people from the community joining in the celebration. So we thought let's try and do something this year again.

On Oct. 31 we had our second annual harvest party and it was a blast. We had people from the community come out and get lots of candy and eat some great nachos. For us this was an outreach into the community of Marshall. We wanted to make a place where kids and families can come to get out of the elements if they were cold or a place where they can have fun and not worried about where their kids were. We had around 150 people come through our doors that night.

Some of the things that you could have done were: jump on the bounce house or bounce on the obstacle course, get your face painted, do the pumpkin ring toss, gourd bowling, the bean bag toss and a photo booth so you won't forget what your kids looked like. These were all for kids to do but if the parents wanted they could also have fun. We also had some popcorn and nachos and cheese for the parents who wanted to hang out and enjoy the night with their kids. The greatest part about the night was seeing kids and parents enjoying themselves. If we are not having fun in the church we are missing out on the fullness of God.

Make sure you mark your calendars for next year cause we are going to be doing the same thing but even more fun and more games. Our hope at Open Door Assembly is that there would be a fun and safe environment for kids on Halloween each year. Thanks to all of the people from the church that helped make this happen. We could not have done it all without great people.
