Sexual abuse case going to trial

November 16, 2011
Marshall Independent

MARSHALL - The case of a Cottonwood man charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct will be going to trial, after a plea of innocent was entered in Lyon County District Court on Tuesday.

Gerald Phillip Gould, 68, of Cottonwood is charged with six counts of first degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second degree criminal sexual conduct. A complaint alleges that Gould sexually abused two girls in Lyon County in incidents occurring between 2000 and 2008. Both girls were younger than 13 at the time of the abuse, the complaint alleges.

At Tuesday's hearing, public defender Pamela Neumann entered a plea of innocent on Gould's behalf, and requested a jury trial. Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes and Neumann both agreed that a three-day trial would be needed for the case. A date for the trial was set for Jan. 4-6 with a date certain set for March 28-30. A pre-trial hearing was set for Dec. 27.
