To the editor:
I am writing in support of yes votes in the upcoming Marshall Public Schools Operating Referendum.
As a parent of children currently enjoying their school experience in the Marshall Public Schools, my support has obvious motivation. The Marshall community and its schools were a key factor in moving my surgical practice and family here six years ago.
Beyond my direct personal support for my children's education, I wish to point out the importance of the Marshall Public Schools as a pillar in the community. Assuring a great school system is a key motivational factor to bringing people into our community. I find it interesting that the health care professionals that I have been involved with recruiting to our community wish to visit/tour/evaluate our hospital first, then next on their list is to visit/tour/evaluate the schools. There is no doubt that the ability to recruit and retain medical talent to this community is directly linked with maintaining great education opportunities for our children. So even citizens that currently have no children in the school system will benefit from continuing the support of the Marshall Public Schools. Marshall is indeed a great place to live. I take pride in living here and in promoting our community as a place to be a part of - the opportunity to pursue a medical career, contribute to the health care of a wonderful community and to be secure in providing your family with a safe environment and great education is attainable, right here, right now.
So I urge the citizens of Marshall to vote yes to both questions on the upcoming referendum this Tuesday, the 8th of November - for our children and for the community's future.
