To the editor:
On a recent Friday, because the Rev. Celeste Lasich was gone, the people of WhY Church wrote a piece for Faith in Action in her stead. Because it was her usual time to submit one, it had her name on it. This has apparently stirred some concern and confusion.
I would like to clarify who WhY Church is. We are a group of people who gather for an ecumenical worship time at 5 p.m. Sundays. We are not connected to, or in competition with any other church. Our existence does not need nor request financial support from any other body. Our members often are members and active in another church. Many denominations are represented in our group. We discuss God's love for all people and work to find ways to serve. WhY Church's founder is the Rev. Jim Crecelius, who was at that time, the pastor at Wesley United Methodist Church. He organized it to meet at the YMCA, thus our name. His goal was to reach people who are not currently active in any church but feel the need to worship somewhere. Our purpose is to offer a means of worship that is unencumbered by tenets, liturgy, etc.
Currently, we are meeting at Christ United Presbyterian Church, but Pastor Celeste is not usually there, although she has been very supportive and likes what we do. We do not wish to be a threat to any other body, but rather an adjunct. Our purpose is to be God's servants in this world and seek to find ways to show His grace in unexpected ways. I hope this clears up any confusion from the Faith in Action column. For questions not answered here, contact me at 507-829-4638.
