Avera Marshall earns silver award in flu vaccination challenge

Avera Marshall has earned a Silver Award in the Flu Vaccination Challenge from Joint Commission Resources. This is the third year Joint Commission Resources has held the Flu Vaccination Challenge, encouraging health care workers to get vaccinated against influenza. Ninety percent of Avera Marshall employees were immunized against seasonal influenza during the 2010-2011 flu season.

Vaccinating staff against the flu is just one way Avera Marshall protects the safety of its patients, residents and families. A high staff immunization rate is key in reducing the spread of influenza in health care organizations.

Avera Marshall earns patient safety excellence award

Avera Marshall has earned a Minnesota Hospital Association Patient Safety Excellence Award for its work in preventing retained objects in the operating room.

Patient safety is a top priority for Avera Marshall and other Minnesota hospitals. That's why Avera Marshall joined the SAFE ACCOUNT initiative, where Minnesota teams work collectively to implement an extensive list of recommended actions concerning both the counting of and accounting for all items used during invasive procedures, especially in the operating room. MHA Patient Safety Excellence Award is given to facilities that have achieved more than 90 percent of the recommended actions.
