MARSHALL - Services for Evelyn M. Dawson, 92, of Willmar, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. Visitation will be from 4:30-7 p.m. today with a Daughter of Isabella Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and Parish Prayers at 7 p.m. at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. Visitation will also continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall or the Church of St. Mary in Willmar are preferred.

She went to her heavenly home Sunday, July , 2011, following an extended illness. She was surrounded by her loving family at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.

Evelyn Mary Dawson was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Montevideo, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Bunn) Stromenger.

She grew up in Montevideo, was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1935. On Dec. 29, 1936, Evelyn was united in marriage to Clyde W. Dawson in Montevideo. They lived and farmed in the Montevideo area for five years. In 1945, they moved to Willmar. Evelyn was employed part-time at J.C. Penny Co., Habichts and Quality Fabric. She was a member of the Church of St. Mary and was active with the Daughter of Isabella, Altar and Rosary Society and the Renewal Group. In their retirement years, Evelyn and Clyde enjoyed spending many winters in Texas and traveling throughout the United States. Evelyn was an avid reader, delighted in keeping up with news and current events, and found tremendous joy in the company of her family. Since November of 2009, Evelyn has resided in Marshall.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis (and Barb) Dawson of Spicer and Brad (and Becky) Dawson of Burtrum; five daughters, Evelyn (and Neil) Adams of Georgetown, Texas, Ginny (and Dan) Untiedt of Albertville, Barbara Peterson of Pelican Rapids, Joan Sargent of Duluth and Julie (and John) Allen of Marshall; two sons-in-law, Ron Altany of Pennsylvania, and Todd Hillstrom of Dawson; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Verdi Gilbertson of Montevideo, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde in 2005; three daughters, Marilyn Altany in 2002, Debbie Dawson in 1998 and Mary Hillstrom in 1996; two great-grandchildren, Eva and Jesse Hammond; two brothers, Earl and Alfred; two sisters, Clara and Agnes and two sons-in-law, Al Davis and Willie Peterson.

Evelyn's family extends a special thank you to all of the compassionate caregivers at Prairie Home Hospice and her dear friends, Mary Jacobs and Kathy Eveslage, of Marshall for the excellent level of care given to Evelyn during her final months.
