To the editor:
Today (Thursday) I learned that Brian Schweer, one of our faithful members, has died. For those of you who do not know what Compassionate Friends is, it is a support group for bereaved parents siblings.
I first met Brian when his wife Bette volunteered to co-lead our Compassionate Friends group. Brian was always by her side at each and every meeting.
He had a remarkable sense of humor that often brought laughter to our group and the ability to be candid and just "tell it as it is."
I remember a day a few summers ago when I was taking a walk and Brian was driving by in his work truck. He must have noticed my slow pace and decided to stop to talk.
He asked how I was doing and I told him "not so good." I was missing my son, David. He said, "Lorinda, put your head up and look at the sun shining." You need to find little reasons to be thankful. He put a little pep in my step and brightened my day.
My heart aches that Brian will not be at our monthly meetings. We will miss you Brian!
