Johnson memorial service Sunday at SMSU
A memorial service for former SMSU administrator Dr. Robert D. Johnson will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Conference Center Ballroom at Southwest Minnesota State University.
He died Dec. 20, 2010, at the Golden Living Center in Battle Lake.
Johnson began his duties at SMSU in 1967, the year the university opened its doors. During that time, he wore many hats, including vice president for marketing and development, director of public services and development, vice president for public affairs and executive assistant to the president. He resigned in 1990.
A number of past administrators will speak at the memorial, including former SMSU presidents Caruthers and Jon Wefald. Johnson's former secretary, Lorraine Weverka, will talk, as will community members Pat Leary and Bob Aufenthie. John Schatzlein, the university's first Student Association president, will also speak.
Memorials are referred to the SMSU Foundation.
Chemistry show April 7 at SMSU
The Southwest Minnesota State University Chemistry Club will sponsor a Chemistry Reaction Show at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in CH217, the second floor of Charter Hall at SMSU campus. Admission is free, and the show is open to the public for all ages to attend. Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream will be provided following the event.
Her admitted to SMSU
Sandy Her, the daughter of Wang Moua her and Yeng Thao Her of Marshall, has been accepted for the fall 2011 semester at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Her planned major field of study is biology.
