Faith in actions for Jan. 21

January 21, 2011
By the Rev. Grant Blomberg

Open Door Assembly

Christmas has come and gone and we are now back to the routine schedules of work and school. For most of us we had a really good Christmas. Santa brought us the gifts that we were looking for and then some.

As we push on to start saving for next year we also start to forget what Christmas was really about. Most of us celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ during the Christmas season and the rest of the year we tend to forget all about that until we come to Christmas the next year.

The other things that we tend to forget are the people that are in need year around and not just at the Christmas season. For most of us we feel more compelled to give to the needy in the Christmas season. If we would change our focus and look for opportunities through out the year how much more of a difference could we make.

If we didn't just give to the Salvation Army or Heart to Heart during the Christmas season, how much more could we do if we thought about doing this year around? It says in Matthew 25:45, Then He will answer them, "Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me." The word calls us to reach out to those that have less than we do. Not just to do this in the season of giving but to create an attitude of giving so that we will do this year around. My challenge to us all is to not just remember to give to United Way or our local Heart to Heart in the Christmas months, but to go outside of the norm and give year around. If we would do this think of the hundreds more that would be touched because of it. Let's put our faith into action in 2011.
