December 3, 2010
Marshall Independent

Cookie walk Saturday at St. Stephen

St. Stephen Lutheran Church of Marshall (1301 S. 4th St.) will have its annual cookie walk from 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the church. A variety of Christmas cookies, bars and candies will be sold by the pound. Shoppers and visitors will have an opportunity to socialize with conversation and enjoy coffee, cider, cookies, rolls and lefse. There will be pictures with Santa, a variety of gifts for sale, and crafts for the children to do while their parents shop.

Compassionate Friends candle lighting event Dec. 12

The Marshall Chapter of Compassionate Friends will participate in an annual worldwide event to honor the memories of children, regardless of age, who have died.

The local service will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 1301 S. 4th St. in Marshall and will feature a message of hope, readings, and music. Annually tens of thousands of families, united in loss, light candles during the Worldwide Candle Lighting, the second Sunday in December. As candles burn down in one time zone, they are lighted in the next, creating a 24 hour wave of light as the observance continues around the world.

The community is invited to attend. Bring a picture or remembrance of a loved one. Candles are provided. To call the Marshall Chapter of The Compassionate Friends, call Lorinda Peters at 507-532-7337. For more information about the national organization visit www.compassionatefriends.org.
