Mainstreeters upset Marshall, 3-1

ST. PAUL - The Marshall volleyball team's bid for a second-straight state title came to an end on Thursday, as the Tigers fell 3-1 to Sauk Centre in the first round of the Class AA state tournament at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. The Mainstreeters won 11-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-23.

Sauk Centre's front row accounted for 18 team blocks in the win. Leading the Mainstreeters was Kali Peschel, who finished with 17 kills and 6.5 blocks.

Marshall's Morgan McKittrick finished with a match-high 19 kills, while freshman Kenzie Beekman finished with 16.

With the loss, the Tigers fall into the consolation bracket, and will play Delano in a rematch of last year's state title game at 7 p.m.
