First Baptist to have symphonic band concert

First Baptist Church of Marshall, located at 2219 250th St. off Highway 23, will be the host of the Symphonic Band from Maranatha Baptist Bible College in Watertown, Wis., at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15.

The Maranatha Symphonic Band, under the direction of Dr. Rick Townsend since 1996, is a 65-member, all-student group that performs a broad selection of band literature, including sacred and secular classics. The band performs at campus events, and also tours each year, performing 15-20 concerts in schools and churches across the nation.

DivorceCare offered Nov. 9 at Evangelical Free

DivorceCare, "How to Survive the Holidays," will be offered from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Evangelical Free Church, 2667 240th Avenue (County Road 7), Marshall in the Fellowship Hall. The evening will include a 40-minute video followed by a discussion, sharing and support. DivorceCare is a Christ-centered, Biblical curriculum offering wisdom and encouragement to those who are divorced or separated. For questions or to register, call Kay Peterson at 537-1815. The cost is $4 for the book; scholarships are available.

Installation of pastor Sunday at St. Stephen

The Rev. Amber Ingalsbe will be installed Sunday at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall with the Rev. Joyce Piper from the Southwestern Minnesota Synod Office officiating. Worship services are at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Following worship, there will be a celebratory noon meal and an opportunity to view the construction progress in the new educational wing. All are welcome to join in this celebration.

Presentation, potluck Sunday at Living Word

Johan and Sonja Hinderlie will portray Martin and Katy Luther at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship services at Living Word Lutheran Church in Marshall. The presentation will be followed by a potluck.

The Hinderlies serve as directors at Mount Carmel Ministries in Alexandria, which is a renewal center for families and adults.

Emmaus Retreat Nov. 12-14

An Emmaus Retreat is being sponsored by Holy Redeemer Church Nov. 12-14. All women of Holy Redeemer Parish and surrounding Catholic communities are invited to attend. Emmaus Retreat is a weekend of listening, relaxing and enjoying the presence of God. Any sharing is optional and remains confidential. Cost for the retreat is $90 by Nov. 8, $100 after the 8th and includes room, board, and transportation. Register by calling Deb at 537-0047.

CDA meeting Nov. 8

Catholic Daughters Court St. Joan of Arc will meet after the 5:30 p.m. mass at St. Mary's Chapel Monday, Nov. 8. Lunch and the meeting will be at Hill Street Place. A drawing for free dues and a presentation titled, "What are my Gifts?" will take place.

Buffalo Ridge Chorale Concert Sunday at Christ Lutheran

The newly formed Buffalo Ridge Chorale is set to give their second performance at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks. Members of the choral come together twice a year to perform. The majority of members come from seven small communities along the South Dakota Minnesota border.

The theme for the October concert is "Our Regional Artistic Heritage," and aims to celebrate the choral history of the upper Midwest. The choral will perform compositions by artists such as F. Melius Christiansen, John McCutcheon and Bob Dylan.

Artwork from local artists will be on display during the event and narrator Steve Hemmingsen will read excerpts from several regional writers during the concert.

Admission to the concert is $5 with children 14 and younger free.

Scandinavian Fest Nov. 6 in Cottonwood

St. Lucas W.E.L.C.A. is sponsoring Scandinavian Fest from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at St. Lucas Lutheran Church, 4232 170th Ave., Cottonwood. U.S. Highway, 59 and Yellow Medicine County Road 2. The menu includes meatballs and gravy, potatoes, coleslaw, carrots, lefse and pie. The cost for adults is $8 and $5.50 for children.
