Stain spotters

October 11, 2010

The best thing to do to a stain on your carpet is leave it alone.

Call a professional, said Carlos Noriega of Lynd.

Noriega and his wife, Michelle, are the new owners of Heaven's Best Carpet and Upholstering.

Longtime Marshall area residents Carlos and Michelle Noriega recently became the owners of a Heaven’s Best Carpet and Upholstering franchise. They posed recently in front of their van with their children, from left, Elena, Collin and Lauren.

Carlos said there are two types of stains: "spills that have been there for a long time and the person has tried to clean it and it just sets in" or there is the sticky dirt that stays there - "a black or brown spot."

The best way to deal with stains is "to leave it and a call a professional," Carlos Noriega said. "A professional has the proper equipment."

The Noriegas recently bought a Heaven's Best franchise and serve Lyon, Lincoln, Redwood, and Yellow Medicine counties.

First they had to spend a week at corporate headquarters in Idaho learning how to properly clean carpets and upholstery. Then, Carlos Noriega spent a week under a regional manager's tutelage.

"You have to work with somebody before they will accept your purchasing of a franchise," Carlos Noriega said.

Michelle, a Marshall Public Schools teacher, does the booking and bookwork for the business.

"My main focus is teaching and our children, but I answer phones, set up appointments, answer questions and write up bills," she said.

Carlos Noriega takes care of the cleaning part of the business. He said there is a process he goes through.

"First, I inspect the carpet and determine what needs to be done," he said. "I pretreat stains and spots immediately. Then I spray the entire area and go over the area with a series of buffing pads that rotate and loosen up the dirt. We use microfiber pads to pick it up. We pick up dirt instead of wet it down."

Carlos Noriega said other cleaning companies use 60 to 80 gallons of water.

"We use an average of two-and-a-half gallons of water," he said. "That's Heaven's Best main selling point - the low moisture. The carpet is dry in an hour."

Carlos Noriega said he investigated different carpet companies before choosing to go with Heaven's Best.

The cleaning formula is nontoxic and does not emit obnoxious fumes, they said.

In fact Heaven's Best offers two scents to leave the carpet smelling good: citrus orange and cherry almond, Carlos Noriega said.

"Or you can leave the carpet unscented," he said.

Carlos Noriega said Heaven's Best is the fastest-growing carpet cleaning franchise, and the franchise has been rated No. 1 by Franchise Business Review five years in a row.

According to the website www.heavensbest.com this award is given based on overall franchisee satisfaction compared to other franchises.
