Led by a medalist performance by sophomore Krista Weiszhaar, the Southwest Minnesota State golf team took first place at the two-round Concordia Invite at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes over the weekend.
Weiszhaar shot a 12-over-par 156 over the two rounds of play to win the overall individual title. Weiszhaar is the seventh Mustang in school history to win medalist honors and the first since Erin Oakland won the MSU-Moorhead Dragon Invite in 2006.
SMSU's team total of 658 was nine strokes ahead of runner-up University of Manitoba in the eight-team event.
SMSU's Sarah Baukol tied for fifth with teammate KC Kane, as both players shot a 22-over 166. Rachel Patnoe finished at 26-over to tie for ninth and Steph Bruns rounded out SMSU's top-five with a 33-over 177, good enough for 16th.
SMSU returns to action Sept. 25 for the first round of the two-day Mustang Invite at Marshall Golf Club.
